That's life

  • Written by Choy Felix

    As humble Trinbagonians,
when morality cuts us like a knife,
we cynically laugh and dust if off,
cause we simply say “that’s life!!!”.
    We take almost everything,
with a pinch of salt wise,
then we bad talk, stups and mutter,
then we smile and say “that’s life!!!”
    Groceries for example,
With its prices going sky high,
    Instead of protest nation wide,
We smile and say “that’s life!!!”
    Transportation fairs rising to,
and their disgusting private vehicles I despise,
instead of resorting to bicycles to avoid the price,
we shake it off and say “that’s life!!!”
Even our citizens are being slaughtered,
like pigs being taken from the sty,
but instead of banding together for a better future,
we turn our backs and say “that’s life!!!”
    Parliament is a joke,
so funny it brings tears to my eyes,
cause while we are being slaughtered, they are leaving the butchers,
but I am forced to smile cause “that’s life!!!”
Our health care system is a mess,
our nurses are hoggish and nice,
and while the poor and helpless wait years for surgery,
those who have say “that’s life!!!”
    Employment is another thing,
tertiary education is no longer for the wise,
and while someone with their psychology degree, serving you KFC,
you laugh and point cause “that’s life!!!”
    Beetham is another thing,
    our Port-of-Spain paradise,
with sweet pollution that gives me congestion,
yet, thousands pass and say “that’s life”
And finally, with AIDS causing destruction,
Killing off man woman and child,
with no hope or solution and barely government intervention,
but sad to say “that’s life!!!”
So as the sun slips away,
    beneath then darkening sky,
May we toast to sweet Trinidad,
though hilariously absurd filled with life.
    May our people one day,
    open up their eyes,
cause the fact of the matter is,
this craziness we are living in; couldn’t possibly be life.
